Track Star Sues Temple for $10 Million in Harassment Suit

Sep 20, 2013

A former student athlete at Temple University has sued the school, her former coach and an assistant athletic director for $10 million dollars in damages, alleging she was a victim of sexual harassment, intimidation, defamation and gender based discrimination.

Plaintiff Ebony Nicole Moore was a very successful thrower on the university’s track and field team from 2009 to 2011, during which time she broke the university’s all-time record in the discus and was rated second in the Atlantic-10 Conference in that event.

But all was apparently not well in regard to her relationship with her coach and administrators. Moore alleged that co-defendants track coach Eric Mobley, Senior Associate Athletics Director Kristen Foley, and others harassed and verbally abuse her, leading to her dismissal from the team on June 28, 2011.

Specifically, she charged that the university and Foley “failed to exercise proper governance of their institutional positions allowing an unfit individual to be in charge of the livelihood of the plaintiff.”

As evidence, Moore submitted emails from the university and coaches. She also claimed the individual defendants made statements to her that were laced with expletives and threats as well as were sexually explicit. Moore further alleged that Mobley threatened her when it came to informing the university about the behavior, saying “never contact my f—— boss, or else you will be dismissed from this team.”
