Hogan Lovells recently represented five Major League Baseball (MLB) clubs in salary arbitration proceedings, a growing practice area for the firm. Hogan Lovells associate Jimmy McEntee served as lead counsel in these proceedings, which included two arbitration hearings and four settlements. Since joining the firm, he has built a practice focused on representing Major League Baseball clubs in salary arbitration proceedings. McEntee represented the Miami Marlins in a hearing against starting pitcher Pablo Lopez, in which the arbitration panel ruled in favor of the US$2.45M salary figure submitted by the Marlins. He represented the Seattle Mariners in an arbitration hearing loss involving second baseman Adam Frazier, as well as four Major League clubs in cases that reached settlement prior to the hearings: the Baltimore Orioles (starting pitcher John Means); the Chicago Cubs (catcher Willson Contreras); the Seattle Mariners (outfielder Jesse Winker); and the New York Mets (starting pitcher Chris Bassitt). McEntee was assisted in these matters by associates CJ Harrington, Derek Centola, and Matthew Marchiori (all Washington, D.C.) and salary arbitration interns Rebecca Pasternak Edelman and Danielle Bland. McEntee previously assisted the Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Minnesota Twins in other salary arbitration cases. He has a 2-1 career record as lead counsel representing MLB clubs in salary arbitration hearings.
