The New York father of an 11-year-old boy has claimed that a middle school wrestling coach gave his son a concussion while demonstrating a drill. Plaintiff Saul Lalic says his son was selected by coach Elijah Singh to demonstrate a maneuver on Nov. 15, 2019.
Singh, who is also a teacher at Morton Middle School afterschool wrestling coach, allegedly placed the 100-pound boy “in a hold and then inexplicably picked him up and slammed him to the floor below.”
The complaint, filed in a Manhattan Supreme Court, further alleged that the son’s head “struck an area of flooring that did not have any protective padding.”
Lalic, who initially filed a $2.25 million notice of claim with the city Comptroller’s office in February, took the next step with the court filing.
The complaint further alleges that the son “sustained severe, serious and permanent injuries, including a concussion and post-concussion syndrome,” which have led to “Nausea, aches, dizziness, vertigo … and an aversion to light.”
The plaintiff’s attorney told the media that … (Lalic) “fully exerted all (his) force on him.
“At the time he was a wisp of a young man and he was picked up and essentially body slammed. There was no malice here. It was gross negligence.”
