The Sports Lawyers Association (SLA) has announced that its 49th Annual Conference will take place May 9-11 at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront in Baltimore, MD.
This year’s conference is centered around the theme “Where Sports and Culture Collide.”
SLA board members suggest that “the world of sports is not only a source of entertainment but also a reflection of our society’s values and aspirations. By exploring the intersection between sports and culture, we aim to deepen our understanding of this exciting field and inspire new ideas and perspectives.”
The SLA annual conference serves as a hub for passionate sports law professionals from around the globe, providing unique networking opportunities with industry experts, legal luminaries, and fellow enthusiasts who share your passion for sports law.

The President of SLA is Layth Gafoor, a Partner at Lucentem Sports & Entertainment Law in Toronto, while Maggy Carlyle, Senior Vice President and General Counsel of the Detroit Lions, serves as the Conference Chair.

SLA has negotiated a special room rate of $269 + taxes at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront, which is the host hotel for the event. To ensure a room on property for the SLA conference, book a room by Tuesday, April 16, 2024 by 5 pm Eastern.
2024 Philanthropy
At its Annual Meeting, SLA makes a sizeable philanthropic contribution to a deserving non-profit organization from the host city. The SLA has contributed $430,000 to philanthropic organizations from 2000 to 2023.
This year, the SLA has selected the following organizations:
Leveling the Playing Field: a 501(c)(3) organization devoted to equipping youth in under-resourced communities so that they can enjoy the mental and physical benefits of youth sports. LPF accomplishes this mission by collecting, sorting, and re-distributing sports equipment to local schools and programs in the Greater Baltimore area.
Soccer Without Borders: Soccer Without Borders (SWB), a 501(c)(3) that uses soccer as a vehicle for positive change, providing participants in underserved communities the opportunity to find belonging. Soccer Without Borders directly serves newcomer refugee and immigrant youth in Baltimore City and County through out-of-school-time programs during the school year and summer.
