University of South Carolina Is Denied Bid to Register a Logo Using ‘SC’ Initials

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has waded into the world of collegiate athletics by affirming a decision of the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board that rejected the University of South Carolina’s bid to register a logo featuring the initials “SC.”   Specifically, it found that the University of Southern California has already registered a logo, using those initials, primarily for use in the sports arena.   The dispute began when South Carolina filed an applicatio
