The Sport and Recreation Law Association has presented Steve McKelvey, Department Chair and Professor of Sport Management in the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, with the prestigious Herb Appenzeller Award. The award, named after a renowned professor in the sport management field who was instrumental in the growth of SRLA, is presented annually to an individual who has given outstanding service to the Association. Before being named chair last March, McKelvey, served as the department’s Associate Department Chair for External Engagement with a focus on fundraising and development to generate financial support for scholarships and other department initiatives, including the move of the annual McCormack Sport Leaders Forum to New York City. Additionally, since 2007, he has served as Graduate Program Director for the MBA/MS (dual) and MS Sport Management program, currently the top-ranked graduate program in the world. McKelvey, also a sports agent and an expert on sports collectibles, has spent more than two decades of service to SRLA.
