When the NFL season recently got underway, the Arizona Cardinals hosted Washington D.C.’s professional football team, whose name has been the source of much controversy.
The continued use of that name and other nicknames being used, such as Halfbreeds, Injuns, Squaws, and Scalping Braves, is simply unacceptable, according to James Riding In, a founding member of ASU’s American Indian Studies Program and a citizen of the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma.
