Kessler Talks about Moving His Legal Team to Winston & Strawn

Jun 1, 2012

Influential trial lawyer Jeffrey Kessler and the rest of his team of accomplished sports law practitioners at Dewey & LeBoeuf have joined Winston & Strawn, significantly strengthening that firm’s presence in the sports industry.

Kessler told Sports Litigation Alert that his group “has moved in its entirety. Other partners in the group include David Feher, David Greenspan, Adam Kaiser and Eva Cole. We also have more than ten associates in the group.”

Not surprisingly, “all of our major clients have followed us, including the NFLPA and the NBPA,” said Kessler.

“We are going to be integrating with the existing sports law practice at Winston, which has significant IP, advertising, transactional and media experience in the sports law area in addition to litigation and arbitration. We believe our combined group will be one of the most significant sports law practices in the country.”

Kessler and his team were just part of the exodus from Dewey to Winston.

Discussing the overall development, Dan K. Webb, Winston’s chairman, described the development as a win-win. “The synergies with our existing litigation and transactional practices provide tremendous opportunities for them and for us,” he said.

In a statement Kessler — who is nationally known for his representation of companies and individuals in some of the most complex antitrust, sports law, and IP cases in the country — added that “Winston offers a platform that provides our group a strong foundation for serving our clients at the highest levels.”
