International Olympic Committee Strengthens Its Stance on Political Statements, Coming Up on the Wrong Side of History, Again

Romano, J.D., LLM, Assistant Professor of Sport Management, St. John’s University   During the 2016 season, pro quarterback Colin Kaepernick sparked a national argument by taking a knee during the National Football League pregame ritual of playing the national anthem. Kaepernick’s symbolic, unspoken protest was a way for him to create awareness of various social issues surrounding the continued subjugation of black people, and other people of color, in this country.
