Florida Court Turns Away, for Now, Claim that School Board Was Liable for Treatment of Coach

A state court judge in Florida has dismissed the claim of a legendary high school football coach who alleged defamation, breach of contract and emotional distress against the Manatee County School Board and two individual defendants. The circuit judge did, however, grant former Manatee High School head football coach Joe Kinnan an opportunity to amend the complaint.   Kinnan resigned Aug. 29, 2014 after having won five state titles and 290 career games. Two scandals preceded his departure.
