Fan Sues New York Jet Over Snowball Incident

Dec 31, 2010

A Seattle Seahawks season-ticket holder has sued New York Jets defensive end Shaun Ellis for an incident that occurred two years ago when Ellis tossed a large block of snow into the Seattle stands at the fan.

Plaintiff Robert Larsen filed the suit, seeking damages for physical injury, humiliation, mental distress, pain, and wage loss from the incident.
A youtube video — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3-aUA8Owyo&feature=player_embedded – appears to show the events leading up to the incident where fans, which may have included Larsen, are taunting various Jets players as they left the field with their own snow balls and insults. When Ellis, who was fined $10,000 by the NFL for his behavior, throws the block of snow into the stands, the fans appear to celebrate.

At the time, the NFL issued the following statement: “Shaun Ellis was fined $10,000 for tossing a large snow clump in the direction of fans. Players are notified prior to each season that any contact with fans that potentially presents crowd-control issues and risk of injury is prohibited.”

The Jets lost the game 13-3 to Seattle.
