Cozen O’Connor, one of the largest and fastest-growing law firms in North America, announced last month that it has begun sponsoring LPGA golfer Ally Ewing.
Ewing, who has three prestigious tour victories to her name, is currently the only LPGA golfer that is sponsored by a law firm.
To learn more about that unique relationship[, we reached out to Cozen O’Connor Executive Chairman and CEO Michael Heller for an exclusive interview.
Question: How did the relationship with Ally come about?
Answer: I personally researched the top 30 LPGA players, reviewed their social media, interviews on YouTube, etc., and picked the player I thought best represented our culture of family and philanthropy. Ally stood out. I then called her agent, met with Ally, and was very impressed with her. We then negotiated a deal.
Question: Why is the LPGA and one of the stars an attractive option for Cozen O’Conner?
Answer: We had great success with our player on the PGA tour, but we always knew we wanted a player on both the PGA and LPGA tours. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are important to our firm and our clients and sponsoring a player on the LPGA tour is another way we can show that these are not just words to us.
Question: How does this fit in the firm’s long-term marketing strategy in the sports industry, and plans for more such deals?
Answer: This has been a fun way to enhance brand recognition. It has also created excitement and interest within our firm, our lateral recruiting, and with our clients
Question: How will you know if this arrangement has been a success?
Answer: We already know.
