Sports Lawyers Association Set to Host Annual Conference in Phoenix May 16-18

March 22, 2019 – Boasting a stellar cast of speakers, the Sports Lawyers Association (https://www.sportslaw.org/) will host its 45th annual conference May 16-18 at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge in Phoenix.
 
The conference, which is consistently the must-attend gathering of sports lawyers each year, is designed for:
 
agents and other representatives of professional athletes,
 
attorneys of professional sports teams, leagues, and players associations,
 
stadium and arena authorities, and operators,
 
amateur sports and intercollegiate organizations,
 
students and professors of sports law, and
 
all others generally interested in the field of sports law.
 
 
SLA President Nona Lee, who is the chief legal officer of the Arizona Diamondbacks, will give the welcome around noon of the 16th. Shortly thereafter, the traditional presentation, “An Overview of Recent Legal Developments in Sports,” will be given by:
 
Gabe Feldman, Paul and Abram B. Barron Professor of Law, Tulane Law School; Director, Tulane Sports Law Program; Associate Provost for NCAA Compliance, Tulane University; Mediator/Arbitrator, MAPS, New Orleans, LA
 
Matt Mitten, Professor of Law and Executive Director, National Sports Law Institute, Marquette University Law School, Milwaukee, WI; Member, Court of Arbitration for Sport, Lausanne, Switzerland
 
 
Sessions on eSports, technology, and collegiate sports will follow that afternoon.
 
On the 17th, presentations will be made on ethics, athlete abuse, gambling, and facility financing, followed by the traditional breakout sessions, which will deal with a variety of other subjects.
 
The next day, the traditional sessions will be offered where management and the players associations speak to labor and other legal issues.
