Dr. Rachel Silverman was recently awarded a $5000 Research Services Council (RSC) Grant from the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) for a new research study she is working on entitled “Grapple with your past: Unlocking the therapeutic Potential of jiu-jitsu” Dr. Silverman, who teaches sports law and other classes at UNK, is partnered on the project with co-researchers Keesha McQuay and Chelsea Supencheck. The purpose of the RSC is to encourage research and creative activity by UNK faculty and graduate students. The RSC places special emphasis on seed grants for projects potentially leading to external funding, projects that demonstrate the potential for publication or other appropriate forms of dissemination, and projects that involve students in the research enterprise. Dr. Silverman, who has a PhD in Sport Management from Troy University is also an avid competitor in combat sports, having trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gi and nogi since 2016.
