Spencer Fane attorney Brian Schoenborn recently provided his insights in the Minnesota Lawyer article, Itch for a Niche: Some Lawyers Thrive in Specialized Practices.
The piece spotlights Minnesota attorneys who currently excel in unique legal areas such as equine, surrogacy, and state ward adoption law. Schoenborn discussed how his college job at the St. Cloud State athletic department led to deep involvement with the United States Hockey League, which eventually attracted hockey business and other sports franchise clients.
“The fact that I was a sports business owner made other people who wanted a team feel like they could call me,” said Schoenborn, who serves as Office Managing Partner for the firm’s St. Cloud office. “I didn’t just talk about it, I did it.”
In his practice, Schoenborn regularly assists hockey-related businesses, organizations, and families. Over the past two decades, he has owned six U.S. Hockey League teams, founded and co-owns the Sioux Fall Stampede, and has worked in the development, ownership, and operation of sports facilities throughout the upper Midwest.
