Loeb & Loeb LLP to Host Seminar Examining Two Hot Topics—Technology and Branding

Oct 28, 2016

Members of Loeb & Loeb LLP’s sports law practice will host a seminar the evening of November 17 that will examine “Technology, Innovation and Sports” and “Monetizing the Athlete Brand Through Multichannel Investments” at its New York City office at 345 Park Avenue (between 51st and 52nd Streets) on the 21st Floor. The event gets under way with registration and networking from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., followed by two one-hours sessions addressing the topics above.

The Technology, Innovation and Sports is described as: “From wearable technology and the collection of athlete data to virtual reality, smart stadiums, and mobile and location-based technologies, technology is transforming coaching, competition, fan engagement and viewership, as well as marketing and advertising. Join our panel as they discuss the legal and business issues presented by the latest technology developments, including privacy and data ownership, intellectual property, and employment.”

It features the following speakers:

Christopher Russo, Managing Director, Technology, Media & Telecommunications Group, Houlihan Lokey

Brian Socolow, Partner, Loeb & Loeb LLP

Jon Spaeth, General Counsel, Vice President of Partnerships & Contracts, Zebra Technologies

Jake Waxenberg, Director of Brand Strategy, Athos

Moderator: Doug Masters, Partner, Loeb & Loeb LLP

The Monetizing the Athlete Brand Through Multichannel Investments is described as: “The age of the simple endorsement deal is long gone. Athletes are their own brands, with their own products, platforms and investments, making them increasingly attractive partners for brands of all sizes. Athlete equity-based endorsement deals can also be a tremendous advantage to startups – and to venture capital and private equity companies that invest in them. Join our panel as they discuss the legal and business issues of monetizing the athlete brand through multichannel relationships, including the development of new endorsement deals, deals in which athletes have an equity stake in companies and related exit strategies; and the impact of the athlete brand on teams and leagues.

It features the following speakers:

Isaiah Kacyvenski, former NFL linebacker and Global Head of Business Development, MC10

Arash Khalili, Partner, Loeb & Loeb LLP

Steve Olenick, Partner, Loeb & Loeb LLP

Sara Pervil, Business Affairs Executive, CAA Sports

Scott Zolke, Partner, Loeb & Loeb LLP

A cocktail reception and more networking follows at 7:30.
