Former AD Sues New Mexico Highlands, Alleging Discrimination and Retaliation

By Holt Hackney A former New Mexico Highlands University athletic director filed a federal lawsuit a couple months ago, accusing the school of discrimination, harassment and retaliation based on her sex, race and religion. The complaint, filed May 21 in U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico, was brought by Shanna Halalilo, who served in several roles within the university’s athletic department before becoming its sole athletic director in early 2025. Halalilo alleges university of
