Aug 4, 2017

Foley & Lardner LLP has announced that Michael Wall has joined the firm’s Sports Industry Team as of counsel in the firm’s Boston office.

Wall was previously an executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at Performance Sports Group Ltd., a designer and manufacturer of hockey, baseball and lacrosse equipment and apparel under the Bauer, Easton and Cascade/Maverik brands.

Wall’s sports and entertainment law practice includes substantive work in the areas of M&A, litigation strategy, regulatory compliance and consumer brand management. During Wall’s nine-year tenure at Performance Sports Group, he oversaw the company’s initial public offerings on the New York Stock Exchange and Toronto Stock Exchange and helped grow the company into a multi-sports enterprise with revenues in excess of $600 million. Wall also coordinated the adoption and implementation of a corporate governance program under U.S. and Canadian securities law, supervised eight business acquisitions between 2008 and 2016, and managed an IP portfolio inclusive of more than 800 patents, among other duties.

Before joining Performance Sports Group, Wall was employed by Delaware North Companies, serving as chief legal officer for the Boston Bruins NHL franchise, the TD Garden, and the concessionaires for the TD Garden, the Xfinity Center and Boston University’s Agganis Arena. Serving in this role for 13 years, Wall counseled the executive management team of each entity on all legal aspects of their operations and business relationships.

“Michael is well acquainted with the legal challenges facing sports-related entities, whether it’s negotiating and securing sponsorship and similar agreements for professional teams or assisting equipment and apparel manufacturers with their business strategies and compliance programs,” said Mary K. Braza, co-chair of Foley’s Sports Industry Team. “Furthermore, his first-hand knowledge of sports and entertainment venues will be helpful to clients involved in sports-oriented entertainment districts and mixed-use developments centered around stadiums and arenas.”

In addition, Wall is a member of the board of directors for Good Sports Inc. and the advisory board for the Boston Bruins Charitable Foundation, Inc.

Wall received his JD from Boston College Law School.
