Mar 4, 2016

Blank Rome LLP announced last month that more than 100 attorneys from Dickstein Shapiro LLP have joined the firm, including a couple with specific expertise in sports insurance.

Those attorneys include Jared Zola and Omid Safa.

Zola has written numerous articles on sports insurance that address event cancellation, non-appearance, weather and business coverage. He also provides counsel on how to maximize coverage.

Safa has written numerous articles and a “guidebook” providing practical guidance on a wide array of insurance coverage issues impacting the sports and entertainment industries.

James Murray, a litigation partner focused on insurance coverage, will lead the new insurance practice at Blank Rome, which expects to cater to the following types of sports industry clients:

professional sports teams and associations;

venues;

universities;

media entities;

promoters of sporting events; and

professional and amateur athletes.

The firm states on its Website that attorneys in the practice area “have extensive experience handling insurance coverage lawsuits and arbitrations on behalf of sports industry clients. Attorneys in our sports insurance practice have helped sports entities obtain coverage for property damage and business interruption losses, event cancellation and postponements, idea submission claims, lawsuits alleging copyright and trademark infringement, and other media, advertising, and marketing liabilities.

“Members of our sports insurance practice have also counseled a number of athletes in connection with the purchase of athlete disability and loss-of-value policies. We also have experience successfully represented athletes in connection with claims for coverage under athlete disability, health, and homeowners’ insurance policies.”
